I finally finished my Iain sweater! I've been working on it for about a month and a half, but I had to take a break in there somewhere to work on some birthday presents. It was a monster, as I still consider myself new to the knitting game. It is a very large and complex project, and I'm super proud of it and it came out really well! I learned how to do a few new techniques which was really cool. I had to frog often, but I competed the giant project.
It's wonderfully baggy, crazy comfy, and stupendously warm -- it's like wearing a cuddly blanket.
I LOVE IT
I specifically chose a men's sweater for all of these reasons.
Alterations: I made the hood extra long by adding a third repetition of the center cable pattern. It runs all the way up the back and is the center of the hood. I also added a pocket because I require somewhere to put my hands and/or miscellaneous items. I don't consider a jacket/sweatshirt/sweater unless it has a pocket(s) of some sort. To make it, I just repeated the basketweave pattern and decreased as I saw fit to create a smooth curve. I also used a garter stitch on the open edges to match the aesthetic of the rest of the sweater.
Here are some progress shots:
