For the first time this Christmas, I decided (much too late) to give my grandparents a gift. I haven't before because in our family, once you turn 18, you become eligible for the White Elephant game. So instead of buying gifts for all the family members, you only need to buy one to participate in the game. However, now that I'm an actual adult, I thought it would be nice to start giving my grandparents Christmas gifts.
The idea struck me about two weeks before Christmas while I still had a few hats to finish knitting. It was too cute an idea not to do it or to save it for next year.
The project included cutting down the small planks from larger pieces, sanding, staining, sanding for a distressed look, attaching hardware, and hand painting.
I'm extremely pleased with the result despite the many late nights (often until 1:30am). It features a nice quote about grandkids, personalized planks with all the kids' names, hooks and eye screws to easily arrange the names however they please, and little clips to attach pictures of the kid to their name.
